Einstein Museum (Bern Historical Museum)

The physicist Albert Einstein (March 14, 1879 - April 18, 1955) had a close connection with Bern throughout his life.

In 1977 the Albert Einstein Society was able to rent Einstein’s former apartment on the second floor of Kramgasse 49, restore the original furnishings, and open the site to the public as a tribute to the achievements of this great scientist.

The Einstein House
The Einstein House is in the center of the Old Town, some 200 meters down from the Clock Tower (Zytglogge). The pictures in the apartment – Einstein’s home between 1903 and 1905 – give insight into Einstein’s time in Bern. Copies of documents and some of his writings provide information on his scientific work. It is here that Einstein developed his special theory of relativity.
